PURPOSE OF THE NETWORK
The Mystical Theology Network was founded in 2011 to reflect on the status of the mystical and the apophatic within theology today, creating important points of synergy within the diverse fields in which the mystical is studied.
The network aims to facilitate fresh engagement with the mystical in diverse religious traditions and to reflect the plurality of approaches to mystical theology broadly defined: historical, literary, practical, artistic, and systematic perspectives; as well as philosophical, psychological, and phenomenological methods. The network recognizes that the study of sources and the embeddedness of mysticism within religious traditions and cultures will often serve to highlight the philosophical, psychological and theological questions that mysticism brings to the fore.
The primary activities of the MTN are the organization of an annual conference and the publication of a book series, as well as offering a forum for public engagement through lectures and the showcasing of artistic practice. To this end, it collaborates with partners around the world.
Membership of the MTN is free and you can become a member by contacting one of the coordinators.
